Overhead gantry hit by mobile crane, falls on taxi

A LORRY carrying a mobile crane hit an overhead gantry on Sunset Way on Monday morning and tore down the metal poles, which crashed onto a taxi behind.

Cabby Lek Yong Meng, 59, was driving into the residential estate with a passenger in the back seat when the metal poles holding up the 4.5m gantry fell and shattered the rear window of his taxi and dented part of the car roof.

The lorry with the attached crane up was coming out of the neighbourhood after delivering a supply of cement to a house under construction.

But Mr Arpundharaj Annaraj, a worker from Siong Hua Supplier and helper to the lorry driver, said he was not sure if the crane was up or down as they left the site.
