AN ELDERLY woman died on the spot after she was knocked down by a car on Saturday afternoon.

Madam Kum Mei Lan, in her 60s, was pronounced dead by paramedics at 1.15pm.

The accident occurred at the junction of Clementi Road and Sunset Way at about 1pm.

Madam Kum lived in Clementi, near the accident site, and was on her way to visit a relative nearby, said the dead woman's daughter-in-law.

Holding his wife's slippers and black handbag in his left hand, Madam Kum's husband was too distraught to speak to The Sunday Times at the accident scene.

A woman who arrived later was seen crying. She had to be calmed down by Madam Kum's son.

The accident in the middle lane caused traffic to slow to a crawl.

The driver is helping in police investigations.
