Youth network pitches in to look out for JI escapee

A youth community network has joined in the hunt for escaped Jamaah Islamiah militant Mas Selamat Kastari.

Heartware Network, a non-profit youth organisation, said it has activated its Youth Bank's volunteer mobilisation and call centre which will mobilise some 6,000 youths to keep a look-out for the fugitive.

The volunteers will receive SMS, email alerts on Mas Selamat, which escaped from the toilet in the high-security Whitley Road Detention Centre last Wednesday at 4.05 pm.

The network will also post the alerts on its website and use the Microsoft Windows Live tab to alert users when they are online messenging.

'The youth volunteers will be encouraged to be vigilant of this fugitive and to contact the police immediately should they have any sighting of him,' said a statement from Heartware on Sunday.

'Heartware will also play its part to activate youth volunteers to do their part in this massive manhunt to assist to the early apprehending of this terrorist.'

Heartware Network has won the Ministry of Home Affairs' coveted National Community Safety and Security Programme Award for three years.
