Explosion death an accident: coroner
Thu, Mar 13, 2008
The Straits Times

A 32-YEAR-OLD mechanic was fabricating an oil waste drum into a bin when it exploded at Sin Ming Industrial Estate in 2006, a coroner's court heard on Thursday.

Two days after the June 27, 2006 industrial accident, Mr Heng Boon Hong died from a head injury.

The court heard that for the past four to five years, he had been converting waste oil drums into bins for use at the lunar seventh month Hungry Ghost festival.

That day, he was using an oxygen gas torch when there was a loud explosion at Eng Shing Mechanical Works where he worked.

State Coroner Ronald Gwee recorded a misadventure verdict at an inquiry into his death on Thursday.
