A MORNING fire damaged four cars at an open-air carpark next to Eunos MRT station on Wednesday, with one almost razed.
The car, a silver Toyota Vios was so badly burnt that its back tyres and the entire interior were melted down. The cars windows, front and back windscreen were also completely shattered in the blaze.
The fire also destroyed the rear headlight covers of three cars parked near the Vios.
Initial investigations by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officers show that the fire may have started from a nearby rubbish bin fixed to a lamp post.
But 57-year-old private driving instructor Teo Kok Ling believed that someone had set his car on fire.
Said Mr Teo, who bought the secondhand car four months ago: 'It does not look like an accident to me. A small fire from a rubbish bin would not have been able to destroy my car so badly.'
Mr Teo had parked his car in the lot for the past two months, with signs inside and on the vehicle advertising his service. He uses another car for lessons.
He said the signs had been defaced a few times, which prompted him to check on his car daily before he leaves for work.
On Wednesday, barely 20 minutes after he left to give a lesson at 9.20 am, he got a call from another driving instructor saying that his car was in flames.
When he got to the scene, firefighters were trying to put out the flames.
