THEY were bus pals since Aryca Loh, 6, started school almost four months ago. But a road accident ended that friendship on Thursday.
The minibus they were in collided with two cars at the junction of Yio Chu Kang Road and Gerald Drive at 11.30am.
The collision caused Russell Koh (above), 8, to 'fly out the back door of the bus'. He died about an hour later - at 12.30 pm - at KK Women's and Children's Hospital (KKH).
The two kids are studying at Pei Chun Public School in Toa Payoh.
Relatives of the boy were seen sobbing and comforting one another while waiting to claim his body at the Singapore General Hospital on Friday morning.
His father, who was also present, appeared listless and barely said a word to anyone.
An aunt told The Straits Times that Russell's mother is not taking the news of her son's death well.
She said: 'We told Russell's mother not to come today as she is very distraught. She had put so much hope in him as he was her first-born.'
The Koh family have two younger daughters, aged one and four.
Aryca suffered facial bruises and cuts on both knees. She was warded at KKH overnight and was discharged on Friday.
Her parents said that she didn't ask for her friend immediately after the accident until Friday. But they said they didn't have 'the heart to break the news of his death to her yet'.
