FROM the studio to the sun, sand and the sea. That's what Artmosaic's unique creative experiment is all about.

The Singapore art gallery picked eight Indian artists, all Kolkata-based, to spend a week in the Maldives last October and come up with two works each.

The results, priced between $2,000 and $16,000, are now on show in an exhibition titled From Sea To Sky - A Maldives Art Journey, which opens on Wednesday and runs till June 5.

Gallery owner Caroline Banerjee, 41, explains the idea behind the getaway: 'A workshop away from the typical small and crowded studios that many of the Indian artists work in seemed a good idea for both the gallery and the artists. The inspiration derived from the Maldives' natural and clean surroundings has clearly had an incredible impact on them, and you can see very different colours and themes in these works.'

While the artists have not drastically altered their style of painting, there are other factors that clearly inspired them to create different kinds of paintings.
