SOME 30,000 Singaporeans celebrated the first-ever Family Day Out at the Singapore Flyer on Saturday.

Under sunny skies, President S.R Nathan launched the nationwide event. With him were his wife and their three grandchildren.

Also present were Community Development, Youth and Sports Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, his wife and four children.

As part of the month-long celebrations which end on June 28, some 15,000 people won tickets to ride on the Flyer, Ducktour, Hippotour and Rhinotour.

Apart from the 190 family activities, some 113 businesses are also offering promotions, from visits to the Singapore Zoo to dental charges.
