ON SATURDAY when her 101-year old mother was cremated, Madam Yeo Kui Ing, 64, died.
She had been lingering in Tan Tock Seng Hospital since May 21, after an accident with a motocycle left her with head injuries.
In that same hospital was her mother, Madam Yeo Ah Lan, warded there for the past two months with a skin condition.
Madam Yeo had been on her way to the hospital to see her mother when a motorcycle clipped her at the junction of Bishan Street 11 and 13.
Her husband of 40 years, Mr Lee Poy Kok, 69, told her not to go as she was unwell, saying that he would take her place instead.
But she continued with her daily visit, getting out of the Bishan flat while her husband, maid and daughter were away.
She knew her mother had not long to live and had actually made funeral arrangements for her.
Madam Yeo was only 200m away from home when she was knocked down.
She never regained consciousness, missing her last chance to see her mother. The elder woman died the next day on May 22.
Visiting her mother in hospital was something she did everyday.
Her father had died when she was very young and her mother had single-handedly brought up three children, doing odd jobs to keep the family together.
The older woman moved in with her daughter's family about 15 years ago, on the death of her son.
The family has a maid to care for the elder Madam Yeo, who is wheelchair-bound and prone to forgetfulness in her old age.
But the younger Madam Yeo would still bathe her mother and cook for her every day.
Said her son, engineer Jeffrey Lee, 35: 'She even washed my grandmother's hair in hospital.
'She was the only one that my grandmother can recognise.''
Madam Yeo's immediate family was with her when she died on Saturday while other relatives attended to the funeral arrangements for the older woman.
