INFORMATION and communications technology (ICT) ministers and telecom regulators will meet in Singapore next week to discuss issues on the development of broadband and next generation networks.

To be held in conjunction with the Infocomm Media Business Exchange (imbX), Asia's largest infocomm and media trade event, Singapore will host the imbX Ministerial Forum on ICT and the Asean Telecommunication Regulators' Council (ATRC) meeting.

Into its fourth year, the imbX Ministerial Forum is an annual high-level dialogue for ICT ministers, senior officials and industry experts to discuss key ICT trends, policies and regulations.

This year, the theme of the Forum is 'Broadband: Opportunities and Challenges' and it will be held on June 17.

The forum will be hosted by Dr Lee Boon Yang, Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts (MICA).

Ministers and senior officials from all the Asean countries together with Bhutan, the Maldives and Oman will be attending the forum to explore opportunities and discuss the challenges arising from recent broadband developments around the world.

Over 80 regulatory officials and industry players will meet to discuss regulatory issues related to interconnection, network security and next-generation networks at the 14th ATRC meeting.

Hosted by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), the meeting will be attended by telecommunication regulators from the Asean nations and dialogue partners from China and Japan.

The meeting will also explore the possibility of a stronger framework of co-operation.

The three-day meeting will be officially opened by Minister Lee Boon Yang on June 18 at 9am.
