AN AVID soccer fan died on Sunday afternoon, hours after a soccer game with his colleagues.
Mr Borhan Salehan,46, a driver with the Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) had earlier that morning played a friendly game with his colleagues to prepare for an upcoming charity match on July 6.
His wife Madam Rosita Saifi, 43, said on Monday: 'When he came back at around 11am, he took a shower and went to sleep. When he woke up at about 2pm, he asked for lunch, but did not eat a lot.
'He then went on to perform his prayers. I was in my room when I heard a loud thud, followed by my children shouting to me that their father had collapsed in the living room.'
Mr Khalid Khamis, a Berita Harian journalist who also played in the Sunday game, said: 'While on the field, he complained about being tired and unfit, probably because he had stayed up the night before catching up on Euro'08 till the wee hours of the morning'.
'He asked to be substituted 20 minutes into the game and as he left the field, complained about giddiness. When I dropped him off at home, he told me that he wanted to go for a shower and then take a short nap. I never expected for this to happen.'
Mr Borhan was taken to Changi General Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3.46 pm.
Mr Leslie Fong, Executive Vice-President of Marketing at SPH, who is the boss of Mr Borhan, could not contain his tears when he saw Mr Borhan's lifeless body at the hospital.
Mr Borhan had been his personal driver for close to 10 years.
'The news of his death came as a shock to me. I have often told him that we were like brothers,' said Mr Fong.
'To find a personal driver is easy, but to find one as dedicated, trustworthy and loyal as him is another story.'
Mr Borhan leaves behind a wife and three kids.
The cause of death was Ischaemic heart disease, a disease characterised by reduced blood supply to the heart muscle.
Its risk rises with age and those who who smoke or suffer from high cholesterol levels, diabetes or hypertension.
