Here's your chance to name the nine stations on the upcoming Downtown Line 2.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) wants the public to offer suggestions for the names of these stations along the 16.6km underground rail system, which will open in 2015.

For ease of reference, the working names for the nine stations are Rochor, Stevens, Duchess, Sixth Avenue, Blackmore, Beauty World, Hillview, Cashew and Petir.

LTA said the station's name should help commuters easily remember and identify the area of the station, reflect the history and heritage of the station surroundings, and should not be named after public structures, or commercial and residential developments.

Members of the public have the option to keep the current working names or suggest new ones for as many of the nine stations as they choose.

They also have to give a brief explanation for their suggested names.

Shortlisted names will be announced and open to public voting in September.

The public can send their suggestions to http://talk2lta.lta.gov.sg, or fax them to to 6396-1650 or mail them to the LTA at 1 Hampshire Road Block 8, level 2, Singapore 219428.

The closing date is Aug 26.
