No direct ramp to CTE for Serangoon dorms

A number of suggestions put up by residents of Serangoon Gardens for the development at the former Serangoon Gardens Technical School site has been accepted by the Ministry of National Development (MND).

The Member of Parliament for Aljunied GRC, Mrs Lim Hwee Hua, had highlighted a list of measures suggested by the residents for adoption by the dormitory operator.

Some of the proposed implementations include providing plantings to screen the road from the nearest residential developments, locating the pick up and drop off point within the premises, and ensuring no mass activities after 10.30pm.

However, the residents' proposal to build a direct ramp on and off the south-bound CTE at the closest point to the site to divert the traffic, has been rejected.

Land Transport Authority (LTA) has studied this suggestion in detail and concluded that this implementation will be unsafe.

The stretch of the CTE between Ang Mo Kio Ave 1 and Ang Mo Kio Ave 3 is too short for a proper acceleration and deceleration lane for the direct entry and exit from the CTE to the dormitory site.

Secondly, if the road is realigned, pedestrians and cyclists from the dormitory will be forced to walk or ride along the CTE when they leave or return to the dormitory.

MND will continue to work closely with grassroots leaders of Serangoon Gardens on the implementation of the dormitory.

The dormitory operator has not been appointed at the time of statement release. Once appointed, there will be a Liaison Officer who can be contacted by grassroot leaders to address issues promptly.
