Mr Andrew Tan Kok Kiong, 41, will take over Mr Lee Yuen Hee as Chief Executive Officer of the National Environment Agency (NEA), with effect from 1 Jan, 2009.
Mr Tan is currently the Deputy Secretary (Special Duties) in the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources and also the Director of Centre for Liveable Cities (CLC) in the Ministry of National Development. He will retain his current appointment as CLC Director when appointed as CEO of NEA.
With a First Class Honours Degree in History and a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard University, Mr Tan started his career in the Ministry of Information and the Arts, and has since held different appointments in various government departments, ranging from Principal Private Secretary to Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, to senior appointments in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Mr Tan will take over Mr Lee in tackling local and regional environmental issues, such as promoting energy efficiency, increasing the recycling of waste and tackling transboundary haze issues.
