NO, PAY UP

At least two of the six loan sharks are not appeased. They said to Mr Yee Meng Yong: 'Your wife's death is your business.' They said they would not let the matter rest.

Mr Yee said: '(One) even demanded that I continue the weekly $500 payments my wife used to pay him. He later called again to reduce it to at least $300 weekly.'

DEAD? IT'S SETTLED

Mr Yee had earlier told Lianhe Wanbao that three of the six loan sharks told him that they would not pursue the matter after learning of her death.

He said: 'They said that my wife had always been punctual in her payments and they had already recovered the original amount they lent her.

'Since she is already dead, I will not have to pay them the remaining interest and they will consider it settled.'

MAYBE
Another loan shark said he would consider if he wanted Mr Yee to pay the remaining money owed by his wife.

When The New Paper spoke to MrYee on Friday night, he said the loan sharks had last contacted him on Thursday. He did not receive any calls on Friday.

'I believe they will not look for me anymore now that they know that my wife is really gone,' said a weary-looking Mr Yee.

TRICKED BY LOAN SHARKS

On the harassment faced by Madam Law while she was alive, Mr Yee said he was aware that she had been tricked by at least one of the loan sharks into paying far more than she owed. After she had remitted money to the loan shark, he called to say that he had changed his account number and demanded that she remit the money again.
