Brand's, the popular chicken essence we're so familiar with, organised a Blogger Challenge in Singapore on Wednesday at the Geek Terminal.
Two teams of bloggers from Singapore and Malaysia consumed 14 bottles of chicken essence on a daily basis over the past two weeks.
They then battled it out to see who would emerge as the champion of the mental performance challenge.
AsiaOne spoke to the leader of Team Malaysia, Mr Hoo Kok Keong, otherwise known as "Capt'n Hookk" or simply "KK", who co-owns a popular food review and recipe blog with his wife.
Here is what the 44-year-old has to say about drinking 14 bottles of chicken essence and competing against the Singapore team in the Brand's Blogger Challenge:
Q: Why did you accept the Blogger Challenge?
A: I've always been interested in human performance and how we adapt to different situations - are we hard-wired or hot-wired and how much we have learnt from our experiences since our younger days.
Q: What have you found out from this Challenge?
A: It's quite interesting because in my case, I'm pretty skewed towards "soft-skills". I'm able to adapt easily to people because I can read their personalities well, but when it comes to basic calculations, I tend to struggle with that.
Q: Is that why most of you struggled with the mental arithmetic segment?
A: Yeah. It takes a bit of cranking up. Plus we're so reliant on computers and calculators these days.
Q: How was your experience with drinking 14 bottles of chicken essence in two weeks?
A: I've been drinking chicken essence since my school days as my parents had inculcated the habit of drinking it whenever I needed a boost. I used to drink a lot of coffee and espresso, but I get side effects due to the acidity. If I want a healthier alternative, I will drink chicken essence.
Q: Do you think that chicken essence has helped boost your mental performance and alertness?
A: Yes, I did feel some differences. But I think that it is best to find a conducive time of the day to drink chicken
essence so that the body can totally maximise the benefits of it.
Q: Will you continue drinking chicken essence?
A: Oh, definitely. But I was a bit disappointed because I was looking forward to a new formula, perhaps something that would help improve my memory.
Q: How do you feel about the Blogger Challenge in general?
A: A lot of us came not knowing what it was going to be like. We didn't know what to expect but at the end of the day, it was very enjoyable. It tickled our intelligence and memory, and then I realised: Hey! We still have what it takes!
