The New Paper
We're just here to chat

CAUGHT up in their passion and tight embrace, the teenage couple were oblivious that their dirty dancing at an HDB carpark had attracted an audience.

And those in the audience, comprising residents in nearby blocks, were hardly thrilled.

One resident was so incensed by the amorous pair's public display of passion that he called the Shin Min Daily News hotline to complain.

The boy was wearing just a pair of shorts while the girl was clad in a T-shirt and shorts.

The reporter observed that the couple appeared to be dirty dancing, holding each other tight. They would pause intermittently to smooch.

At one point, the couple lay down and appeared to be having oral sex.

There was also used tissue paper strewn on the floor near the couple.

After observing them for about 30 minutes, the reporter approached the teens and asked what they were doing at the carpark and whether they were practising dance moves.

The boy replied: 'We were just chatting. We are underaged and we can't do much.'

He claimed that people frequently practised their dancing at the carpark, because it is quiet.

When the reporter told them that residents had complained about their behaviour, the boy replied: 'I'm underaged. There's really nothing much I can do - I'm only 15, although I may look older.'

A resident who had been observing them told Shin Min that the teens had been there for about two hours.

They were on the top floor of the five-storey carpark, which has a garden on its roof, but could clearly be seen from nearby HDB blocks.

A resident said that on a typical day, cars usually park on the first four storeys, leaving the fifth storey empty.

Students whom The New Paper spoke to had mixed views on the incident.

Chan Huiling, 19, said she didn't think much of it because the students had already 'bothered to hide themselves from the general public'.

'Considerate'

'The quiet top floor of a multi-storey carpark is already being quite considerate.'

She added that it would make her uncomfortable if the couple had been fooling around in a less quiet place.

'Even more so if they are young kids,' she said.

Another student, Joel Tan, 15, said he was disgusted by the teenagers' actions.

'They should just find somewhere private if they want to do these things. It's very unsightly,' he said.

Mr Tan Teck Yong, 50, an engineer with two teenage daughters, said he was concerned with the couple's 'liberal attitude towards sex'.

He said: 'They may not have actually done much in public, but (the incident) shows that they are unruly teenagers.

'They should exercise some self-control. If not, they should at least refrain from doing things in public which could be offensive to passers-by.'

OTHER PUBLIC DISPLAYS

  • In April, The New Paper reported a case of two men and a woman who filmed a sex romp with a handphone camera at what appeared to be an HDB stairwell. The group were all dressed in what looked like fast-food outlet uniforms.
  • Three months ago, The New Paper reported about a Singaporean woman who had posed for nude pictures in public places.
  • The pictures as well as videos showing her having sex in public were circulated on the Internet. She claimed they had been uploaded onto a private blog and her then-boyfriend had been selling the blog password without her knowledge.
