Singaporean who died in Bangkok pub fire identified

According to a statement released by Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Thai authorities have identified the Singaporean man who was a fatality in the Santika Pub fire as Teo Sze Siong.

MFA has been in contact with his next-of-kin and arranged for them to travel to Bangkok this evening. Similar arrangements have been made for family members of the injured Singaporeans to travel to Bangkok.

The Singapore Embassy in Bangkok continues to work closely with the local authorities to ascertain if there are any more Singaporeans affected.

 

2 Singaporeans injured in pub fire

Two other Singaporeans were also among the 200 party-goers who were injured. According to existing reports, the two Singaporeans suffered minor injuries.

An MFA statement stated that, as at 1100 hours (Singapore time), 1 January 2009, we have ascertained that two Singaporeans had been injured in the fire. They suffered minor injuries and are in hospital.

Singaporeans with friends or relatives who are known to be in the vicinity of the affected area but who remain uncontactable can contact the Singapore Embassy in Bangkok or the MFA.
