I HAVE an idea whereby high-rise buildings can produce energy and satisfy their own energy requirements.
In a high-rise building with many super-fast lifts, the air in the lift wells could be harnessed to generate electricity.
When the lifts move up and down in narrow lift wells, it pushes air forward.
The total volume of air in all the wells can be harnessed and channelled to be released through an auxiliary tunnel at
the top and bottom of the lift wells.
The air can be used to propel light-weight turbine fans, which can generate electricity.
This technology is relatively simple.
With all the high-speed lifts going up and down in high-rise buildings, there will be a constant supply of air power to tap into and convert into energy.
It would be a cheap but precious source of power for the owners of the building, and can supplement the electricity supply needed to light up various areas in the building I hope the authorities and polytechnics could consider my suggestion and test out the idea.
