336 commissioned as SAF officers

Minister for National Development Mah Bow Tan reviewed a commissioning parade for 336 Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) officer cadets at the SAFTI Military Institute yesterday.

A total of 296 Army cadets and 40 Republic of Singapore Air Force cadets were commissioned as officers.

They had trained for 38 gruelling weeks, during which the officer cadets were put through demanding and realistic training to develop their combat, planning and leadership skills.

Upon their commissioning, the officer cadets will assume operational, instructional or staff appointments in the SAF.

Speaking at the parade, Mr Mah reminded them of the responsibilities of leadership.

He said: "As an officer of the SAF, you carry the honour, but also the heavy duty of leading the men and women under your charge into battle when called upon to defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Singapore, and to preserve the peace and security that we enjoy."

Members of Parliament, senior Ministry of Defence officials and SAF officers, as well as families and friends of the newly commissioned officers attended the parade.
