Better future for Singapore's Olympians
Sun, May 03, 2009
AsiaOne

The government is looking into honouring sportsmen, who have represented Singapore at the Olympic Games.

For a start, Singapore's Olympians will be recognised with the setting up of the Singapore Olympians Association.

The organisation, led by 81-year-old Tan Eng Yoon, a former sprinter, will have its own website.

It will also have over 150 Singaporean Olympians to share their experience with younger athletes.

Better future

In addition, the Olympians will get more support from the government.

A committee for sports legacy will be set up to look at ways of rewarding past Olympians in a more concrete manner.

It will also look at other areas, such as the Asian Youth and Youth Olympic Games, which will also leave a legacy for Singaporeans.
