SINGAPORE - The residents of Ang Mo Kio (AMK) found themselves buzzing to a different beat as the weekend drew to a close.
The unsuspecting residents of the heartland condominium estate had a rare visitation of bees Sunday evening in what was described as an "infestation" of bees in an email from AsiaOne reader Mr Tay.
Mr Tay told AsiaOne, "I was first alerted to this bee infestation of our estate at about 9pm in the evening, when I got back."
The avid AsiaOne reader, who lives in a condominium along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 9, was caught by surprise at the unusual occurrence. He and his family found themselves having to escape the danger of being stung by bees to get to their apartment unit.
The bee activity was greatest at the main lobby on level one, according to security guards of the condominium, and residents were redirected to access their homes via basement lifts as a precaution.
"I didn't see much bee activity as we used the lift, but when I got to my floor, there were more than a handful of bees buzzing around the lift lobby," Mr Tay added.

When Mr Tay checked on the situation again at 11pm, he said he found "dead bees were littered all over the floor". (See photos)
Mr Tay was happy that "the estate management was quick to act" as he was worried that the sudden bee infestation could have been potentially disastrous for the many residents and young children living in the estate.
A day earlier, on Saturday evening, another reader said she saw bees buzzing towards her flat off Pasir Ris Drive 1.
Eventually, the swarm clung on to the outer wall of an apartment on the 13th floor, which is the highest floor for that block.
"Fortunately, a short spell of rain on Sunday drove the bees away," said the reader.
"But, I'm still wondering what caused the swarm to appear suddenly at our flat."

Where did all the bees come from? Could it be bee migration season?
