Former China nurse is now a streetwalker

She is tall, has good looks and shoulder-length hair. She used to be a nurse back in China, but now, she is working as a streetwalker in Singapore.

Only wanted to be known as Mei Mei, the 25-year-old said that her troubles began when she owed some $4000 in debt in a job placement gone wrong.

Mei Mei told Shin Min that she had signed up for a job in the Middle East. The agent told her that the wages were higher and were paid in US dollars.

However it was only after paying the agent and reaching her workplace that she found out she was supposed to entertain men. The former nurse refused to accept the job and returned to China.

"I refused to borrow money from my family, and when I heard of a job opportunity in Singapore, I jumped at the chance."

The former nurse told Shin Min that she thought she was going to be a student and work part-time in Singapore. The agent even asked her to sign up for a student pass so that she could stay longer.

In all, Mei Mei paid the agent some $14,000 in agent's fees for her trip to Singapore.

Not long after her arrival here, Mei Mei learned from her friends that selling her body would be the fastest way to earn money, and thus began her life as a streetwalker.

Mei Mei told Shin Min that her family believes she is working part-time at a coffee shop now while studying in Singapore, and do not know of her real 'occupation'.

"I earn enough to send some money back home now, but I never told them I am selling my body. My family believes the money came from tips I earned at the coffee shop."

She also told the Chinese daily that she had already paid off her debts in full, but is still unwilling to go home as she wishes to earn more money before she returns to China.
