I REFER to the letter, "Develop another little red dot on Christmas Island" (my paper, June 10).

Buying an island is not the solution to Singapore's problem of limited land area.

Also, it is impractical. Many families move to Singapore for work or to try something new.

Others move here to be closer to their family and friends.

So, if the Government decided to buy an island, who would go to live there?

If one moved here for professional reasons and was moved to another island, how would the Government ensure that things would work?

Also, what about the cost?

The Government would have to buy the island, and that would not come cheap.

It would also have to build the infrastructure, thus spending even more money.

On top of that, it would have to employ many people to build these things.

At the end of the day, is the Government going to spend this much money on something we already have?
