The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) today launched a set of coins to commemorate Singapore's 44 years of independence.

A total of 13,000 coins will be launched on July 24 - 5,000 pieces of $2 silver proof coins, 6,000 pieces of $2 cupro-nickel proof-like coins and 2,009 premium 2-in-1 coin sets comprising both coins.

The coin design is based on the 2009 National Day Parade (NDP) theme, 'Come Together - Reaching Out, Reaching Up'. At the centre of the coin are silhouette images of a man and a woman taking the pledge before the Singapore flag.

The coins will be sold by The Singapore Mint. Orders must reach The Singapore Mint by July 23.
