Funeral for girl killed by train

By Kimberly Spykerman

RAIN fell in sheets on Monday morning, like the tears of the mourners as they huddled around a tan-coloured coffin and bid their last goodbyes to Ms Clara Lee Jing Yu.

The Republic Polytechnic student, who was 20, died in the early hours of Saturday morning after she was run over by a Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) train on the tracks at Upper Bukit Timah. Her coursemate, Mr Goh Sheng Yao, 19, was also killed in the incident. He was cremated on Sunday.

On Monday, more than 100 family members and friends packed the hall of Mandai Crematorium for the short prayer service. In keeping with the Chinese tradition Ms Lee's parents did not attend the service.
