Tremors were felt all over Singapore after a powerful earthquake struck western Indonesia earlier this evening.
The quake struck at sea at about 6.15 pm Singapore time at a fairly deep 87 km below sea level and measured 7.9 on the Richter scale.
According to reports from the citizen journalism website STOMP, Singaporeans have reported feeling tremors all over the island.
Reader Benjamin Lim told STOMP that he felt the tremors at his 12th floor HDB flat in Jurong West. Other members of his family too had complained of dizziness and items in his home were visibly moving.
The reader then confirmed the tremors with a friend who happened to be around the area.
Another reader, Krishnan, also wrote in to STOMP, reporting tremors felt at the OCBC's Chulia Street office at about 6.22 pm. The reader said the tremors lasted for around 1 to 1.5 minutes.
Steven Chua, an AsiaOne reader, also wrote in about the tremors that he felt at his Senkang home from about 6.15 pm to 6.25 pm.
