3 ways to get input of YOG youths
Thu, Mar 18, 2010
my paper

THE inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG) will commence soon, from Aug 14-26. I suggest we seize this opportunity to get the valuable input of youths from around the world.

Firstly, we can set up an official YOG forum. It will be interesting to learn how youths from other parts of the world look at certain issues.

The brain-drain issue, as well as how youths can have a global mindset but remain local at heart, are some possible topics for discussion.

They can also shed light on ways to improve the public- transport system here, perhaps peppering their suggestions with anecdotes about experiences in their own countries.

Secondly, we can also create a dedicated blogging site and select some youths to be official YOG bloggers.

This will help us learn about their opinions of Singapore, which can provide insights into attracting talent and making Singapore more appealing to tourists.

Lastly, we can create a time capsule, in which YOG participants place their penned hopes for the future.

Perhaps, after a decade, we can open the capsule and see how far we have moved forward in achieving those ideals. I am sure some of the YOG youths will be future leaders and catalysts for change.
