POLICE arrested two men separately on Wednesday for allegedly being involved in loan-shark activities.

They caught the first man, 36, while conducting an ambush at Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park related to a case of loan-shark harassment in Yishun on Tuesday.

The man, who had a black marker pen on him, is allegedly a debtor-turned-runner who had harassed other debtors by scrawling graffiti on the walls of their units.

The second man, 22, was arrested after police officers saw him behaving suspiciously at an ATM while they were on patrol in the vicinity of Rivervale Plaza in Sengkang.

The man, who was found with several ATM cards and transaction receipts, had allegedly helped loan sharks carry out fund transfers.

The first man was charged in court yesterday for loanshark harassment.

First-time offenders can be fined up to $50,000, jailed up to five years and/or be given up to six strokes of the cane.

The second man will be charged in court today for helping to carry out an unlicensed moneylending business.

First-time offenders can be fined up to $300,000, jailed up to four years and/or be given up to six strokes of the cane.
