Son orders casino restriction order against father

67-year-old taxi driver, Mr Zhang, gambled so much that on Sep 2, 2010, his son got authorities to issue a casino restriction order against him.

Over the course of 20 years, Mr Zhang bought 4D regularly and won about $500,000 during that period.

One of his largest one-time winnings was in 1998 when he won $300,000, betting on the number 1757, which his son had dreamed would be the first prize.

He spends quite a bit betting on 4D, sometimes placing bets of some $110 on 4D alone.

However, Mr Zhang stopped gambling when he got married.

He also used to save his winnings but started visiting the Integrated Resorts (IRs) since May this year.

In the beginning, he used to pay $100 entry fee each time he enters the casino, but after visiting the casino eight times, he decided to pay the one-off $2,000 fee instead.

He visits the IR casinos five times a week and mainly plays baccarat, with bets sometimes as high as $1,000 a hand.

He said that he can lose some $10,000 to $20,000 in a day.

In July, his wife and son tried to stop him from visiting the IRs.

By this time, he had spent only two months visiting the casinos, but had already lost $80,000.

He had arguments with them, and even left home at one point in time, saying that he wanted to commit suicide.

The incident eventually involved the police.

In August, as he was still unable to quit gambling, his wife moved to live with their son because she could no longer face him.

His son took him to the police station on Sep 2 to get the authorities to issue a casino restriction order against him.
