Minister George Yeo to visit India

Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo will make a working visit to New Delhi, India from February 20 to 21, 2011, to participate in the meeting of the Interim Governing Board (IGB) of Nalanda University.

In April 2010, Minister Yeo accepted the invitation, from Indian Minister of External Affairs S M Krishna, to sit on the IGB in his personal capacity.

The IGB, chaired by Nobel Laureate Professor Amartya Sen, is tasked to oversee the development of the new international university.

The upcoming meeting in New Delhi will review the progress that has been made, including the transfer of some 446 acres of land to Nalanda University from the Government of Bihar, as well as to put in place the framework for funding, organisational structure, construction and operation of the university.

During the working visit, Minister Yeo is scheduled to meet his counterpart, S M Krishna, as well as other Indian political leaders.

Minister Yeo will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
