WASHINGTON, USA - WHITE House hopeful Barack Obama held a long-awaited telephone chat with former president Bill Clinton on Monday, further easing bruised feelings over the rancorous Democratic nominating duel.
The call came days after Mr Obama and his vanquished party foe Hillary Clinton appeared together in symbolic surroundings of Unity, New Hampshire, hoping to repair party fractures left by their prolonged tussle.
'Senator Obama had a terrific conversation with President Clinton and is honoured to have his support in this campaign,' Mr Obama's spokesman Bill Burton said in a statement.
'He has always believed that Bill Clinton is one of this nation's great leaders and most brilliant minds, and looks forward to seeing him on the campaign trail and receiving his counsel in the months to come,' Mr Burton said.
Reports last week said that despite his wife's vow to do whatever she could to make Mr Obama the next president, two-term president Clinton was still nursing anger over the race, in which he was accused of playing the race card.
The former president remains a hero to many grass roots Democrats, and could possibly help Mr Obama in his quest to win over working class whites in key swing states that backed Mr Hillary Clinton in the primary race.
