WASHINGTON - DEMOCRATIC presidential candidate Barack Obama, already the favourite of Silicon Valley, has released a last-minute campaign video outlining his views on technology.
The video, posted over the weekend at the official Obama website, contains excerpts from a speech Mr Obama made in November last year at the Mountain View, California headquarters of Internet search giant Google.
In the nearly three-minute-long video, Mr Obama pledges to double federal funding for basic research and implement policies that would 'keep the door open for the next generation of startups'. He vows to put more government data online in an Obama administration and 'ensure that every American has broadband access'. The video is available at barackobama.com/tv.
Silicon Valley, like much of California, already leans heavily towards Mr Obama over Republican John McCain ahead of Tuesday's vote.
More than 90 per cent of campaign donations made by employees of Apple, Google and other top technology firms have gone to the Democrat, according to a recent study by blogger Robin Harris at ZDNet.com. -- AFP
