TEHERAN, IRAN - A man identifying himself as the fiance of "Neda" - the young woman whose fatal shooting during a Teheran protest made her a symbol of political resistance - has emerged with details of how she came to be at the event.
Mr Caspian Makan told the BBC that she was caught in traffic with her music teacher and got out of her vehicle because she was feeling very hot.
She then stumbled into the running battles between opposition supporters - who say the recent election that returned hardline President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to power was rigged - and security forces.
"That's when she was shot dead...Video footage of the shooting clearly shows that probably Basiji paramilitaries in civilian clothing targeted her. Eyewitnesses said she was shot in the chest,' said Mr Makan.
His fiancee's full name is now known to be Neda Agha-Soltan.
Despite massive protests, Iran's top election body yesterday ruled out canceling the disputed polls, with a spokesman saying "no major fraud or breach" was uncovered.
