NEW YORK - New York City agencies on Monday were told to slice spending by $2.43 billion over this fiscal year and next because the local economic outlook remains uncertain, the city's budget chief said.

"Our economic forecast expects the City will continue to lose jobs through this fiscal year before the economy begins to slowly grow again in the later part of calendar year 2010," Mark Page, the budget director, said in a letter to the agencies.
