WASHINGTON, Nov 23, 2009 (AFP) - The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on Monday announced a voluntary recall of more than 2.1 million cribs produced by Stork Craft Manufacturing, a Canadian company.
The British Columbia manufacturer recalled some 1,213,000 units distributed in the United States and another 968,000 units distributed in Canada.
The US watchdog agency said the recall affects retractable "drop-side" cribs with plastic hardware that can break or become detached, creating a space between the crib's hardware and mattress.
The malfunction could possibly suffocate infants and toddlers who become trapped in the space, the CPSC said.
