Remains of French tourist found in Tioman

KUANTAN - Police have found a body of a woman believed to be that of missing French tourist Stephanie Foray.

The remains were recovered at Kampung Tekek in Pulau Tioman at about 4.30pm yesterday.

Sources said the body will be sent to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital here today for a post-mortem and DNA testing to confirm the identity.

The French liaison officer Yves Godiveau, based in Singapore, who has been in constant contact with the police over the investigation, confirmed the recovery of the body.

"We are in the process of contacting the family to update them on the latest development," he said yesterday.

The 30-year-old French civil servant was reportedly last seen alive on the island on May 8.

She was said to be among more than 90 passengers who arrived by ferry from Mersing and there was no record of her leaving the island, either by sea or by air.

So far, two suspects, locals from Kampung Tekek, have been picked up for questioning in connection with the woman's disappearance.
