GEORGE TOWN - A man hanged himself after apparently strangling his wife in their apartment in Tanjung Tokong.
The body of Ooi Chong Seng, 29, was found hanging from a window frame in the bedroom while the body of his wife, a Chinese national, was found lying on the bed in the same room.
It is learnt that police rushed to the scene after receiving a tip-off from Ooi's friend at about 8.20pm last night.
Ooi worked as a supervisor in a karaoke outlet here. It is not known whether his wife, who was in her 20s, was employed.
Ooi's father, Kon Liong, 56, a fisherman, said his son had been living on his own for about five years.
"He would visit our home in Teluk Kumbar once a month.
"We last saw him two weeks ago when he came home for his mother's curry chicken dish.
"He had asked his mother to cook the curry again on Sunday but she was too busy. He then said he would come home another time," the father said in tears.
He added that Chong Seng, who studied until Form Four, did not talk much about his personal life.
"He had never created any problem for us. In fact, he gave us po-cket money every month," he said.
State CID deputy chief Asst Comm Nasir Salleh said the woman was believed to have been strangled.
He said the police have classified the case as homicide-cum-suicide.
ACP Nasir said police rushed to scene and broke into the unit.
"We found the two bodies in the bedroom. There was also a knife on the floor of the bedroom."
