KUALA LUMPUR - A chicken rice seller has been charged in the magistrate's court here with murdering his girlfriend.
Cheh Chun Nam, 33, is accused of murdering Chan Yee Mun, 23, at a flat in Persiaran Lemak, Jalan Lemak, Taman Segar in Cheras here between 2am and 3.30am on June 22.
He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the mandatory death sentence.
No plea was recorded from Cheh, who was unrepresented.
Magistrate Siti Shakirah Mohtarudin set Sept 5 for mention.

On June 22, it was reported that Chan had been torched at a flat she shared with her boyfriend.
Firemen who rushed to the Taman Segar flat on receiving an emergency call found her motionless with 90 per cent burns on her body.
Chan was rushed to the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital and succumbed to her injuries four days later.
