Retailer Silver River Furniture has been fined $4,000 for failing to display GST-inclusive prices for its items.
Under GST (General) Regulations, GST-registered businesses have to show prices inclusive of the tax.
Businesses in the hotel and food and beverage industries are the only ones allowed to display GST-exclusive prices for goods and services that are subject to service charge.
Investigations on the alleged offence were conducted by the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (Iras) following a tip-off from a member of the public.
It was found that two of Silver River's advertisements in The Straits Times showed pictures of furniture with their prices, with small print that said "all prices exclude delivery & GST".
Prices in Silver River's showrooms and an advertisement that was posted on its website in February also did not comply with price display requirements.
This was not the first time that Silver River had contravened the GST price display requirements.
The retailer had been warned by Iras for similar offences in the past, but had repeatedly failed to comply.
Failure to display GST-inclusive prices can attract a fine of up to $5,000.
