KUALA LUMPUR - A police report was lodged yesterday over a posting on Facebook, purportedly by Umno Youth.
Barisan Nasional Youth executive secretary Ibdilillah Ishak said the seditious post needed to be investigated and the report was lodged on behalf of Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.
"He requested me to lodge a report as this post has irked many Malaysians and we would like the perpetrators to take responsibility for their action," he said after lodging the report at the Tun H.S. Lee police station.
The posting, which appeared last Saturday, read: "Jika anda setuju untuk jadikan KRISTIAN sebagai agama rasmi persekutuan Malaysia, teruskan sokongan anda kepada Pakatan Rakyat. (If you agree to make Christianity the official religion of the Federation of Malaysia, continue supporting Pakatan Rakyat.) God bless you my son."
Ibdilillah said Umno Youth did not condone such remarks and wanted to lodge the report to show the seriousness of the issue.
"Islam is the official religion and this is enshrined in the Constitution. How can you question it?"
On possible suspects behind the post, he said it could have been a ploy devised by the opposition or even an Umno Youth branch member.
"But we are not pointing fingers at anyone and would like to leave the investigation to the police."
Ibdilillah said both the post and the fake Pemuda Umno Malaysia Facebook page had been removed.
