KUNDASANG, Sabah - Beauty queen Thanuja Ananthan reached her fundraising target when she made it to the Mount Kinabalu summit yesterday.

The Miss Malaysia/World was with her twin sister, Anuja, and 13 others in the expedition themed "Climb of Hope" that aimed to raise money for the National Cancer Society of Malaysia.

The climb hoped to raise RM50,000 (S$20,262) for the society, which Thanuja represents as its ambassador, with support from the Sutera Harbour Resort.

They started the climb on Friday and continued early yesterday morning for the final ascent to the 4095m peak.

"It wasn't easy but I was extremely amazed by the agility and strength of the local porters and guides who scaled the mountain daily."

Organised by two friends Kattie Hoo and Doreen Wan, the idea for the climb started out as a challenge.
