Jail, rotan for unnatural sex

GEORGE TOWN - A former university student was sentenced by the Sessions Court here to five years' jail and ordered to be given 11 strokes of the rotan after he pleaded guilty to five charges of committing unnatural sexual acts against two boys, including forcing one of them to sodomise him.

Muhammad Mustakim Mohamad, 23, admitted committing the offences between Oct 2010 and March last year.

He had initially claimed trial to the charges but changed his plea yesterday.

In the first three charges, he was accused of forcing a 14-year-old boy to perform oral sex on him at 7.15pm on March 13 and 5.30pm on March 20 last year, and forcing the boy to perform anal sex on him at 9.15am on March 19 last year.

In the other two charges, Mustakim was accused of stimulating a 9-year-old boy to commit an indecent act at 11pm on Oct 15, 2010, and at 3pm on March 16 last year at a house in Taman Bukit Gambir, Jalan Bukit Gambir, Gelugor.

Counsel Rosli Ismail, who appeared for Mustakim, asked for a lighter sentence as it was his client's first offence.

Sessions Court judge Sitarun Nisa Abdul Aziz sentenced Mustakim to five years' jail and three strokes of the rotan for each of the first three offences, and three years' jail and one stroke for the other two offences.

She ordered his jail sentences to run concurrently from yesterday.

Deputy public prosecutor Sariza Ismail prosecuted.
