SELAMA, Malaysia - Former Federal Criminal Investigations Department (CID) director Datuk Fauzi Shaari has joined PAS.

Fauzi, 62, handed over his membership application form to PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang during a ceramah at Taman Kota Wira, Batu Kurau, last night.

The Larut-born Fauzi said he has always been attracted to PAS since he was in his teens, saying: "The party's struggles have always been for Islam. It's only now that I am officially a party supporter," he said in his speech.

Fauzi, who retired from the police force in 2006, said that he would reveal wrongdoings of "things" that he had followed and investigated.

"I'm a responsible man. Things that can be revealed will be revealed," he said, adding that he understood his responsibility that official secrets should not be exposed.

Fauzi also expressed his support for hudud law propagated by PAS.

"However, we are living in a multiracial country. We need to make the people understand about Islam and hudud before implementing it," he said, adding that the party's allies PKR and DAP were understanding about the religion.
