MP Michael Palmer's father passed away

Broadcasting legend, Vernon Palmer, died of pneumonia at the age of 84, reported local news media.

The former news reader is also the father of Member of Parliament Michael Palmer, who serves with the Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC.

The baby-boomer generation would be most familiar with Mr Palmer's voice for accompanying them on the radio and providing sports commentary.

He was also most notable for his commentary of the Malaysia Cup.

He had been diagnosed with pneumonia a couple of years back and finally succumbed to it on Friday evening.
