Naked man seen walking around aimlessly in Sengkang

A man was spotted walking around naked in a residential estate in Singapore on the first day of the New Year.

He was spotted in Sengkang at around 5pm on January 1, 2010.

The witness 'Steve', who saw the nude man walking around aimlessly, took a photo and sent it to citizen journalism website STOMP.

The photo clearly shows the man with totally no clothes on walking along a wide pavement in broad daylight.

'Steve' commented that it was really an unpleasant sight for ladies and children who might see him.

He added that maybe the man was overstressed and he wondered if there was anyone taking care of him.

A separate incident at the Clarke Quay area saw another naked man playing hide-and-seek with security personnel and police before being subdued with a stungun.

In Singapore, public nudity is considered obscene and hence an offence.

Almost a year ago, on Jan 24, 2009, a couple, Swedish exchange student Jan Philip, 21, and A*Star scholar Eng Kai Er, 24, caused a stir by strolling down Holland Village nude.

While they escaped a jail term, both were charged and fined $2,000 each.

However, they escaped a jail term as Singapore's Miscellaneous Offences Act stipulates that an offender can be fined a maximum S$2,000, or jailed 3 months, or both.
