Ex-Army Chief to contest in Buona Vista

SINGAPORE - In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the PAP's Community Foundations, the six MPs from Holland- Bukit Timah GRC and Bukit Panjang GRC, turned up at both the Senja-Cashew Community Centre and the Ulu Pandan Community centre for an afternoon of performances from kindergarten pupils and other family activities.
It was at the celebrations, that Minister Lim Swee Say, who is slated to move to East Coast GRC when Professor S Jayakumar steps down, officially announced the newest PAP candidate, Major-General Chan Chun Sing, the ex-Army chief officer who will soon take his place in Buona Vista GRC.
The 41-year old Major-General who is married with two children, who has been widely speculated to hold office immediately because of his seniority in the army, said that though there was a lot to learn he was "comforted by what I have seen because there is a strong foundation lead by the previous generation of leaders."
Also announced during the festivities, Minister for Community, Youth and Sports Dr Vivian Balakrishnan will take over heading the Holland-Bukit Timah team previously led by Minister Lim Swee Say.
