FULLY leased, The Clementi Mall is less than two weeks away from its official opening next Saturday, and 95 per cent of shops there are already open.
The five-storey retail development opened in mid-January this year. It boasts a total of 135 retail outlets, including 16 restaurants and cafes. Visitors will be able dine at familiar dining outlets such as Fish & Co, Japanese restaurant Ajisen and KFC.
The Clementi Public Library, which opened late last month, is one of the mall's anchor tenants, along with others like BHG Department Store, Best Denki and FairPrice Finest.
The West Coast Town Council's Clementi office is also located in the mall, on the second level. As a contemporary and mid-market mall that caters to the convenience of its patrons, The Clementi Mall is directly linked to a soon-to-be-opened bus interchange, as well as Clementi MRT station.
The Land Transport Authority has estimated that the bus interchange will be open by the middle of this year.
Ms Ina Se, the mall's senior manager of advertising and promotions, said that MRT commuters make up the bulk of mall traffic daily.
She said: "The tenants are happy with the traffic flow here." An estimated 189,000 residents live within a 3km radius of the mall, in neighbourhoods such as Jurong East and Queenstown.
The 26,940 sq m mall is owned by CM Domain - a joint venture by Singapore Press Holdings' subsidiary, Times Properties; NTUC Income Insurance Co-operative; and NTUC FairPrice Co-operative.
One mall patron, undergraduate Liana Chek, 18, said: "The mall is conveniently located, as it is right beside the MRT station and (has a) library. Students go there because there are many direct buses to it from their schools."
Conveniently situated on top of the mall are two Housing Board blocks comprising 388 units. A separate set of lifts on the ground floor of the mall takes residents directly to their units. This is the first such development by the HDB.
Residents had started collecting the keys to their units since December last year, and the HDB expects full occupancy by the second half of this year.
To mark the official opening of The Clementi Mall, shops are offering promotions from next Saturday to June 26.
