WHAT IT IS

THE Government will increase Edusave contributions by $10 to $180 for those studying at primary school level, and by $20 to $220 for secondary school students.

WHY IT MATTERS

From January on, the Government will increase funding for the programme that helps students cover tuition and extracurricular fees.

Those studying in government and government-aided schools can use it to pay part of their tuition. They can also use it to go for enrichment courses and activities.

The increase in Edusave contributions will cost the Government an additional $7.6 million.

The total Edusave contribution for 2008 is expected to be $86.2 million.

The Edusave scheme was started in 1993 to maximise educational opportunities for Singaporeans.
