Former all-girl M'sian school now accepts boys

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia: The atmosphere in Kuen Cheng High School will be different now, as the traditionally all-girl school received 200 male students for the new academic year.

The school has 517 new students this year, compared with 270 the previous year, said Kuen Cheng board chairman Tan Sri William Cheng.

"Although we faced some difficulty when we tried to adopt the co-ed policy, we have managed to gain the understanding of parents now," he told reporters on the first day of school yesterday.

The school, established in 1908, accepted male students after getting a court injunction, applied by its alumni association to stop its directors from adopting the co-ed policy, set aside.
